Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVOC) FSC 235

Tafton Fire House May 15 and 16, 2010 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

16 Hours - Lecture-8 hrs/Lab- 8 hrs Prerequisites: Age 18+ DOH Con-Ed Units 0.0 - M/T: 8.0 – Other Gear: Apparatus

This course is suitable for both novice and veteran emergency vehicle operators. This course provides instruction for emergency personnel who may be involved in operating emergency vehicles. Topics included: defensive driving, emergency response, vehicle maintenance, and a driver training obstacle course.

Driver training obstacle course will be on Sunday, May 16 at the Wallenpaupack School. Times for testing will be scheduled. Apparatus will be used - no personal vehicles.

  • To conduct this class tuition free, we need a minimum of 15 students by May 1. To secure a place in the class, I will need a check for $10 made payable to Tafton Firemen’s Relief Assoc. The check will be held and returned if you complete the class successfully or you cancel by May 1.

    Sunday March 25, 2007 Drill

    This House burn was to be a controlled burn with multiple training exercises within the house and surrounding area. Due to the condition of the structure ALL drill activities were confined to the exterior of the building. Main points of the drill included, gaining access to residence, obtaining a water source, and adapting equipment on hand to handle the situation. Due to the location of the structure, emergency personnel was only able to use the following equipment: 41-Brush-2, 41-Support-3, 41-Tanker-1, and Both SAR ATV’s, 41-Support-2 was requested to scene for its large portable pump but due to mechanical difficulties was unable to attend the drill.

    The drill was attended by 11 emergency personnel from Shohola Township.

    After the structure was safely confined to ashes a brief drill containing High Angle Rescue, Use of Ropes and rigging was conducted by Captain Mike Donavan.
